a single room or two rooms occupied by an officer singly. No rent allowance will ordinarily be grant- ed to an officer on probation or agreement, who was unmarried at dite of appointment, if he marries while he remains on probation or agreement.

An officer who with the permission of the Colonial Secretary, does not reside either in Goverment quart- ers or in a tenement in respect of which a rent allowance is payable as above, receives a lodging allow- ance as follows:

(a) Married Officers 10% of salary

subject to a maximum of $100

per mensem.

(b) Other Officers 5% of salary subject to a maximum of $50 per mensem,
